Get to Know Our Service Manager, Alvin Tayag

At Coffee Ambassador, we pride ourselves on having the best service in the San Diego office coffee industry — not just delivering coffee, but in creating an exceptional breakroom experience, doing everything with a smile, and showing our genuine appreciation for our customers. We are especially proud of the employees responsible for this great service. We sat down with one of the key architects of Coffee Ambassador’s signature service, Alvin Tayag. Get to know him below!

Hi, Alvin! What’s your role here? How long have you been with us?

I am the Service Manager of Coffee Ambassador. I’m a jack of all trades. I oversee four departments now: route sales, service, customer service, and the warehouse. They all come to me. I’ve been working here for almost 17 years.

You manage a lot of people. What are your team’s biggest strengths?

The can-do attitude. If you have a can-do attitude, and you have a team that are all team players where you know you can count on them, it makes a huge difference. That’s their biggest strength because, as they say, two heads are better than one. So if one person can’t figure out one thing, somebody else may have the expertise or more experience.

What’s the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is the people, both internally and outside. I’m such a “people person.” I like to make people laugh, and coffee is about relationships. If it’s important to you to have a relationship with people who are clients and vendors, you cannot imagine any better job than working here, because that’s what we’re all about. Coffee is about relationships and dealing with people.

What do you want Coffee Ambassador customers to know?

You will hear that we’ve been around for almost 50 years. And that right there commands respect, because to stay in business this long, you must be doing something right. To maintain customers we’ve had for 40 years, for big organizations like that, for customers to have stayed with us for this long… it means we’re doing something right. Small businesses come and go. But we stay around, because we are passionate about what we do.

What’s your breakroom coffee order? Or are you a Bevi kind of guy?

My first cup of coffee is usually around 7:15 a.m., followed by a second cup at 8:30 after our morning powwow. I like French Roast in the morning, a dark roast by Peet’s. I love Peet’s. I load it up with all the French Vanilla creamers, all the sweet stuff. And then at lunchtime, I do iced tea. I combine Bright Tea’s white tea and English Breakfast on ice. Then sometimes in the afternoon, I’ll have a cup of decaf, or a hot tea. I like it all.

If you could write a new slogan for Coffee Ambassador, what would it be?

Coffee Ambassador: Providing a pleasant experience with every cup. The keyword is “pleasant.” We have different types of offerings for different people. Diversity is good. People might drink hot, cold, espresso… we have all of that. Whatever pleasure they want to have in their breakroom, they can do what works for them. You can do you! Have what you want in that single cup. It’s your own experience.
